FAQ

An air-to-water heat pump is another name for a hot water heat pump. It means the heat pump takes heat from the air and transfers it to water.

The coefficient of performance (COP) measures the efficiency of a hot water heat pump. It is the ratio of heat energy transferred to water to the electricity consumed. In other words, the COP indicates how much heat energy the hot water heat pump can provide per unit of electrical energy input. The higher the COP, the more efficient the heat pump converts electrical energy into heat energy. For example, most hot water heat pumps work on a COP of around 3-4. In monetary terms, with a COP of 3, you get 90c of hot water, and you only have to pay 30c.

If you are heating water with a traditional hot water cylinder, then almost definitely the answer is yes. Consumer NZ assessed the savings at around 67% against an electric hot water cylinder. If you use a gas califont style (Infinity etc.), the most significant savings will generally come from removing the gas connection and not paying the line charges. So if you have other appliances on gas, for example, cooking, you may need to look at changing them over at the same time.

Depending on the type of heat pump, they will always have at least one component outside. Some will have an indoor and outdoor unit, and some will be completely external.

Not currently, however, they do in Australia and parts of Europe, so we hope it will eventually come here. Having said that, most major banks will offer a "green loan", usually up to $80k in value, with a limited interest rate of 1%.

What To Expect

We start by gathering information through our online form or a quick phone call. With years of experience, our estimates are highly accurate and tailored to your specific needs.

If the estimate works for you, we’ll schedule a visit from one of our trusted installers. They’ll assess your property, confirm the details, and answer any questions. You’ll then receive a firm, written quote — no surprises.

Once you accept the quote, we’ll schedule a convenient installation date. On the day, we’ll arrive on time, keep you informed throughout, and complete the job within 5–6 hours. Your water will be off for a few hours, but we’ll make sure everything is back up and running smoothly before we leave. And of course, we’ll leave the site clean and tidy.
